Announcement of Kazuo Oda, Fellow of Asia Air Survey Co., Ltd., as President of the Japan Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (JSPRS)

Asia Air Survey Co., Ltd. (Headquartered in Shinjuku, Tokyo; President: Hitoshi Hatakeyama; hereinafter referred to as “the Company”) is pleased to announce that Kazuo Oda (61), a fellow of the Company, has been appointed as the President of the Japan Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (JSPRS), effective May 21, 2026.

Oda is the first individual from a private company to hold the position of president in the history of the society.

Since joining the Company, Oda has been engaged in research and development as well as practical work in the fields of photogrammetry and remote sensing, contributing to the advancement of geospatial information. As president of the society, he will continue to promote collaboration between industry, academia, and government, and contribute to the development of related fields and international outreach.

[Kazuo Oda, Fellow – Biography]

  • 1988: Graduated from the Department of Geophysics, Faculty of Science, Kyoto University
  • 1988: Joined Asia Air Survey Co., Ltd. (the Company)
  • 1994-1996: Visiting Researcher at Carnegie Mellon University
  • 2005: Obtained Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo
  • 2005: Received the Society Award from the Japan Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing
  • 2013-2018: Director of the Company’s Comprehensive Research Institute / Advanced Technology Research Institute
  • 2018-2022: Seconded to the Japan Digital Road Map Association
  • 2022-2026: Executive Director of the Japan Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing
  • 2023-Present: Fellow of the Company

[About the Japan Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing]

The Japan Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing was established in 1962 by enthusiastic individuals from industry, government, and academia, with “photogrammetry” as its primary research subject. The society aims to promote the advancement of academic and technical knowledge in photogrammetry, remote sensing, and geospatial information. Currently, it has approximately 1,100 members.

“I will strive for the advancement of the fields of photogrammetry and remote sensing and the strengthening of collaboration between industry, academia, and government. I will also focus on nurturing the next generation of researchers and engineers and aim to further invigorate the activities of the society.”
