Overview

Many houses of Sumikawa spa were completely destroyed by the landslide at morning , 11th of May. The gray colored zone is consist of soft-clay breccia that covered with gray air fall ash derived from steam explosion.

One of the steam explosion crater

The size of crater is 11m x10m and 3m deep. In this area some hot springs have reactived already.

Anguler bomb made by steam explosion

This rock may be altered andesite may be. This size shows maximum one around the crater.

Avalanche and debris flow deposits along River Akagawa

The terrace of the right side consists of mega block of clay that deposited from first avalanche.

Main slip slope

The height of main slip slope is 60m. And its trend of striation shows maximum dip direction. The stratigraphy of this outcrop is breccia, brown loam, lava flow of Akita-yakeyama volcano and very soft altered green tuff of basement, from top to bottom.

Temporally lake

A small water falls of melting snow made three temporal lakes upon the landslide block. One of the lake shown left.
