Two hotels on the foot of Akita Yakeyama (0803-26=) were completely destroyed by a landslide and lahar last Sunday morning, May 11. Prof. Hayashi (Akita University) and his colleagues have discovered that a steam explosion took place in that moment. He reports an ashfall and ballistics. The magnitude of the eruption was very small. There was no death or injury, because all guests and staffs of the hotels have been evacuated.
